A noise complaint by-law was all the talk this week at Sudbury City Council.

Last year council directed staff to come up with a noise complaint by-law that creates a consistent approach with noise and noise complaints throughout the city.

Ward 3 Councillor Gerry Montpellier believes this by-law wasn’t drawn up with the city as a whole in mind.

Montpellier was upset over a condition that said no motorized sports racing on private property would be allowed between 7 pm and 7 am.

Public consultations brought ideas like no restrictions for snow removal, while things like construction, power tools, music, TV’s and other items would not be allowed between 10 pm and 7 am.

It would have also seen the purchase of five 10 thousand dollar sound level metres for by-law officers.

Ward 4 Councillor Evelyn Dutrisac didn’t like there being no restriction on time that snow plows can be operational saying she knows that snow has to be cleared but citizens are being woken up at 2, 3, 4am by city plows.

The by-law was not accepted and staff will report back on a revised version in 2017.
