The Ontario government is providing 28.8 million dollars over five years to SNOLAB in Sudbury.

This will go towards the operation and upkeep of the deepest underground lab in North America.

Minister of Research, Innovation and Science, Reza Moridi says for Canada to grow economically we have to innovate.

Moridi says the money will go to operational costs and after taking his second tour of the facility, he understands why the lab is so important to the country.

The site at Vale’s Creighton Mine has had scientists from 14 countries conduct research at the lab and in 2015 Arthur B. McDonald jointly received a Nobel Prize in Physics from research done at SNOLAB.

This will go along with a federal government investment of 28.6 million dollars over three years announced in January.
