It’s up to the judge, if the charges against Gerry Lougheed Jr. and Pat Sorbara are thrown out, or if the trial will push forward.

Lawyers for Sorbara and Lougheed argued in court Tuesday for the case to be tossed in a directed verdict.

The crown argued the definition of candidate and said there was a possibility of Glenn Thibeault changing his mind so that caused Sorbara to offer Thibeault a bribe and the two to offer Andrew Olivier something to step aside.

Lougheed’s lawyer Michael Lacy called the crowns interpretation of candidate, “the most convoluted, disingenuous and fundamentally flawed interpretation of a statue that I have ever heard a crown articulate.”

The trial will resume on October 24th with the judge’s decision.
