Malcolm Young has passed away at the age of 64. As a co-founder of AC/DC along with brother Angus Young, Malcolm had been battling with dementia for the past three years.

A statement from the AC/DC Facebook page confirmed the news

“Today it is with deep heartfelt sadness that AC/DC has to announce the passing of Malcolm Young.

Malcolm, along with Angus, was the founder and creator of AC/DC.
With enormous dedication and commitment he was the driving force behind the band.
As a guitarist, songwriter and visionary he was a perfectionist and a unique man.
He always stuck to his guns and did and said exactly what he wanted.
He took great pride in all that he endeavored.
His loyalty to the fans was unsurpassed.

.

As his brother it is hard to express in words what he has meant to me during my life, the bond we had was unique and very special.

He leaves behind an enormous legacy that will live on forever.

Malcolm, job well done.”

From sbs.com: “Formed in Sydney in 1973 by Malcolm and his younger brother Angus, AC/DC built a loyal Australian fanbase on the back of relentless touring and albums such as Powerage and Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.

The band survived the 1980 death of frontman Bon Scott, returning with the classic Back In Black, which remains the second-biggest selling album of all-time with an estimated 50 million copies sold worldwide.

Young last featured on the band’s Black Ice tour, which ran from 2008 to 2010 and is the fourth-highest grossing tour of all time.

He is survived by his wife O’Linda and two children”
