A report suggests the best option for a new performance and convention centre with a public library and art gallery would be to demolish the current Sudbury Arena and build on that site.

The result would be a shared space in downtown Sudbury at an estimated cost of 63 million dollars.

City council will receive the report on Wednesday and will discuss it, with no financial implications at this time.

Demolishing the current arena site scored the highest site criteria rating ahead of re-using the arena, the Minto East Parking lot, the Shaughnessy East Parking lot and the Rainbow Centre.
