UPDATE

Some quick work by Union Gas and Greater Sudbury Police and Fire after a gas leak at the Rainbow Centre today.

Around 12 pm, the leak was reported, police shut down area roads, fire services evacuated the mall and some surrounding buildings while Union Gas shut off the gas and worked to repair.

Road were starting to open up shortly after 1 pm and people were allowed back into the mall around 2 pm.

Sudbury Police and Fire along with Union Gas are in the area of the Rainbow Centre because of a gas leak feeding the mall.

Union gas has shut off the gas and the mall has been evacuated.

Police are asking residents to stay away from downtown and Roadways around the mall are closed to traffic including Notre Dame between Elm St. and St. Anne’s Road, Elm Street between Notre Dame and Durham, St. Anne’s Road between Elgin and Notre Dame and Durham St.

The scene in currently under control and people should be allowed back into the mall shortly.
