What is World Radio Day? We’re glad you asked. It’s a day to celebrate a medium that connects us all and brings people together regardless of where, when or how they listen. February 13 was chosen as World Radio Day because it was the day United Nations radio was established in 1946.

This year, for the first time ever, Canada is taking part in the celebration. Over 600 radio stations across Canada have teamed up to make our first World Radio Day really special. If you turn on your radio today at 8:22am local time, no matter which station you’re listening to, you’ll hear “You’re Not Alone With Radio”, a :60 second message that tells how radio and Canadians connect, anytime, anywhere. This is the first time in the world that a country, across geography, time zones, language and different ownership groups, has ever achieved anything of this scale!

The :60 second spot and it’s :30 second adaptation was chosen in a blind review of 15 submissions from creative departments and writers across the radio industry.

If you didn’t get a chance to hear “You’re Not Alone With Radio” – you can listen to it here:

Our job in radio is to connect people..and one of the major moments from the last year was the One Love Manchester benefit concert:

One Love Manchester
Rogers Radio broadcast and live streamed One Love Manchester in its entirety, commercial free, on over 15 radio stations across the country, allowing even more Canadians to experience the sold-out concert, live on-air and online.

The concert was announced by Ariana Grande just days after playing the Manchester arena on May 22 where an attack took place the same night. The concert was to honor and raise funds for victims and their families.

“One Love Manchester [was] an opportunity to once again use music to heal and unite global citizens, and we want[ed] to help provide as many Canadians as possible the opportunity to show their support and be a part of this historic concert,” says Julie Adam, Senior Vice President, Rogers Radio.
