Details

Friends of the Sudbury Food Bank are invited to participate in the 30th annual Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive.

Support from returning supporters and those new to the campaign is vital in one of the most successful food drives per capita in Canada.

Found by late Vale/Inco employee Edgar Burton, whose goal was always to collect “one more can” than the previous year, the food drive has collected more than 1,000 tons of food since it began. More than 100 tons was collected in 2016 alone, to be distributed to 40 member agencies and outreach groups across Greater Sudbury.

Contributions from the community help feed more than 16,000 people, more than half of whom are children, according to the food bank.

Financial contributions are also accepted, with each dollar donated becoming an estimated six dollars in food value through the food bank’s purchasing power.

Those who wish to make financial contributions to the campaign may do so by cheque, made out to Sudbury Food Bank, or by Visa or Mastercard at the Sudbury Food Bank Warehouse, 1105 Webbwood Dr. Credit card donations may also be made by calling 705-671-9663 or online at www.sudburyfoodbank.ca.

The Edgar Burton Food Drive in support of the Sudbury Food Bank runs until December 15. Reserve troops from the Canadian Armed Forces 2nd Battalion Irish Regiment will be picking up donations from participating businesses and schools from Dec. 18-20.
