The theme for this year’s Volunteer Week, is how each volunteer creates a ripple effect.

Organizations and non-profit groups around Sudbury are marking the week by saying ‘thank you’ to volunteers who give their time, talents and energy freely.

Linda Dupuis with United Way of Sudbury -Nipissing District says volunteers are vital to every community.

She says she loves how our city has a strong volunteer base and that Sudbury support a culture of volunteerism.

Board Member for Volunteer Sudbury, Barb Nott, says local organizations are stronger because of their volunteers.

She estimates in Sudbury there are between 10-15,000 volunteers and they all volunteer for different reasons.

The theme “volunteers are part of the ripple effect” comes from Volunteer Canada.

Nott feels many non-profit groups wouldn’t even exist if they didn’t have volunteers to help them.
