Moose

By Angela Gemmill

Declining populations are to blame for the province deciding to issue 15% less moose tags for hunters this year, for the moose draw which opens next week (April 21).

The Ministry of Natural Resources made the decision.

It will also delay the start of next year’s hunting season by one week across much of the north.

These are meant to help sustain and grow Ontario’s moose populations since recent aerial surveys show numbers are decreasing in several wildlife management units in the North.

Wolves, climate change, habitat loss, hunting and disease have all lead to the decline.
