Over one thousand people came out for the annual Hike For Hospice at Bell Park yesterday.

The event helps raise funds for Maison Vale Hospice in Sudbury, a ten-bed end-of-life care facility on Bethel Lake.

Executive Director, Leo Therrien says this is the biggest fundraiser for the hospice, since they don’t get government funding.

Although final numbers aren’t yet known, organizers expected to raise over $150,000 from the hike.

Hospice Board Member, Michelle Cloutier, says the facility is extremely important for our community.

Many participants are family members of former clients who’ve used the hospice for end-of-life care.

Cloutier says the participants want to give back to the facility that helped their family during a difficult time.

The Hike for Hospice is also a chance to raise awareness about palliative care in our community.
