Human Remains

By Angela Gemmill

The investigation into human remains found in Junction Creek is at a standstill for now.

Greater Sudbury Police are waiting for autopsy results from the Coroner, who is currently leading the probe.

But the local Coroner, Dr Raymond Sawkiw, already has several other post mortems along with the Sudbury case.

He looks after other unexpected or unexplained deaths from Northeastern Ontario and three come in over the weekend from Timmins.

Sudbury Police Staff Sergeant Craig Maki told our newsroom he isn’t sure where the Sudbury case will fall in the Coroner’s queue of examinations.

Sergeant Maki says the direction of the Sudbury investigation will depend on the autopsy results.

The post mortem is expected to determine the victim’s identity, cause of death and how long the body may have been in the water.

If the death is ruled a homicide or foul play is involved Sudbury Police will take the investigation over from the Coroner.
