Teachers March

The rain did not stop around 500 local secondary school teachers from coming together and marching out front of the Rainbow District School Board office in downtown Sudbury earlier today.

Last week the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation announced a deal could not be reached with the local school board and the teachers hit the picket lines.

Executive Assistant at OSSTF and Provincial Bargain lead for the Sudbury area, Shelley Page says they hope to show solidarity by bringing the teachers together and that they want to get back to the table.

Scattered amongst the crowd were a few students, including Janel Strum from Sudbury Secondary School says certain students could fail if midterm marks are used, and grade 12 students will not get to have their prom or graduation ceremonies.

OSSTF District 3 President James Clyke says since the strike began last week, no progress has been made.
