A part-time civilian employee with Greater Sudbury Police Service has been charged with one count of Possession of Child Pornography.

The Cyber Crime Unit identified the alleged suspect during a recent investigation and the man has now been suspended without pay.

The employee works in the Administrative branch of the service.

In a release to the local media, Chief Paul Pederson says “It is disappointing when a member of our service has been charged as a result of a Criminal Investigation but I am completely confident in the judicial systems and processes that are in place that hold our people accountable.”

An internal audit is currently being conducted on computer systems at the police service to make sure internal filters are working properly and inappropriate material is not accessed.
