A new process is in place to handle the city’s controversial Healthy Community Initiative funds.

The H-C-I funds provide $50,000 to each of the 12 wards yearly, with 75% going to capital projects with the other 25% for community grants.

The General Manager of Leisure and Citizen Services Ron Henderson says up until now the funds were directed by council, but that is changing to a community driven process.

Staff will prepare a report semi-annually to notify council of the successful applications and will look for council approval for capital requests over $10,000 and community grants over $1,000.
