Daly: Can you tell me the kind of person that would not have a good time at a Big Durty show and the kind of person that would have a great time at a Big Durty show?

Eric: [laughs] Oh, um the kind of person that would not have a good time at a Big Durty show? I’d like to say old but some old people can rock [laughs]. You know, probably someone who likes to knit would not have a good time at a Big Durty show or someone who likes to…yeah I’m going to go with knit. Someone who likes to knit would not have a good time at a Big Durty show.

Someone who would have a good time at a Big Durty show…hmmm. You know the “Stone Cold Beer Chug”?

Daly: No I don’t.

Eric: Oh you take two tall cans, you slam them together over your head together and chug them both at once.

Daly: Sounds like a lot of fun

Eric: Anyone who likes to do that will have a GREAT time at a Big Durty show

Daly: [Laughs] Please tell me there’s a Trailer Park Boys reference with the name Big Durty

Eric: There’s actually wasn’t at first, no. We kind of came together as a four piece, we didn’t have a singer at the start and we were just jamming and joking about names and our one guitarist, Deleeuw, kept saying we’ve got to call the band “Big Durty”, it sounds gnarly!

We checked online and there was a couple bands called “The Big Dirty Band”, which is the Trailer Park Boys reference. We thought let’s avoid any confusion, spell it a little different, take out “The” take out “Band” so there’s nothing to do with Trailer Park Boys. Other than us all being fans I guess.

[We’re] just trying to describe the music in the name. And we thought you see something cool on a poster, you want to go see a band partially because of their name. The scene’s kind of oversaturated anyways. There’s a lot  bands that are coming and going, trading members, you have to stick out from the get-go, and when we told people we were thinking about calling the band Big Durty they all thought it was awesome!

Daly: It’s an awesome band name, it’s funny I was listening to your single at work and one of my co-workers overhead it and asked me, “Who is this band?”, I told him Big Durty, he then asked, “Where are they from?” and I told him The Hammer. He just started laughing.

Eric: [laughs] It’s appropriate isn’t it?

Daly: Yeah don’t take it the wrong way…but that’s an great name for a band from The Hammer

Eric: No worries, we’re Big Durty and proud [laughs]

Daly: So Big Durty’s music, it’s Stoner Metal / Riff Rock, great tunes to party to. Do you guys go in and write after you’re done partying or are you just purposely making music you know you want to party to?

Eric: We write during the partying [laughs]

Daly: Ok, that makes sense

Eric: Well kind of, we all kind of go home, noodle around, and bring in a riff, just bare bones, bring it in and everyone hears it a different way. We all have different influences separate to each other, and you’ll hear it with a certain twist or certain style to it. Sometimes I’ll hear it one way and then Brad will get behind the drums and he’ll play it completely different and that will kind of warp how the rest of us hear it and next thing you know it’s on to a whole different level.
