HSN Near Top Once Again In Organ Donation

Two awards were given to Health Sciences North for once again being a leader in organ and tissue donation in Ontario.

The Trillium Gift of Life Network presented HSN with the Hospital Achievement Award – Provincial Conversion Rate, and Award of Excellence for besting the target organ donor conversion rate of 67% and doing so for over four years.

This year HSN had a rate of 69%

HSN’s Hospital Donation Physician, Dr. Bhanu Nalla says they have been able to maximize the potential locally for organ donation.

The conversion rate refers to the percentage of actual organ donors achieved from the total number of potential donors.

Overall organ donation registration rates in Ontario stand at 30% and seven of the top 10 communities for registrations are in Northern Ontario.
