Sudbury City Council is stepping in to try and save 36 full time hospital laundry jobs in Sudbury.

Ward 2 Councillor Michael Vagnini brought forward a motion to have staff make an economic impact study of losing the jobs and to have council write a letter to the province and Health Sciences North.

Ward 8 Councillor Al Sizer was in favour of showing support, but says he doesn’t want to waste staff time and money on a report that tells another agency how to do business.

Ward 10 Councillor, Fern Cormier says this isn’t Target moving out of town for interest of shareholders in the United States, it’s the province and the city and taxpayers who paid for the facility.

Council voted to support the motion.

It was announced last year that come March, 36 full time workers and a number of part time laundry workers would be laid off, and the work would be shipped to Hamilton.
