No more paper voting for Sudbury.

City Council voted narrowly in favour 7-6 on Tuesday to go online only for the 2018 Municipal election however polling stations will be open to assist people who are not comfortable with voting online.

Ward 3 Councillor Gerry Montpellier was upset saying people love the traditional method.

Ward 6 Councillor Rene Lapierre says people don’t like change, but in 2014 online voting was a success.

Local chair of the Canadian Association of Retired Persons, Hugh Kruzel says some people will say hang on, but others already have an online presence.

City staff say the 2014 election of having online and paper cost three times more than previous elections.

The city of Ajax went all online in 2014 and saw a five per cent voter turnout, some residents waited two hours in line at polling stations in Sudbury last election.
