A 54-year old man died in a fire in a Donovan apartment building last night.

Tenants from 223 Jean Street called 9-1-1 when they noticed smoke from one of the units and when they knocked on the door, the occupant opened it and collapsed shortly after he put the fire out.

EMS and fire services started lifesaving efforts to revive him but unfortunately he succumbed to his injuries.

His name will not be released out of respect for the family’s wishes.

The cause of the fire and the man’s death is being investigated but Sudbury Fire Services say early indication is that the fire was caused by an unattended pot.

Two men who were severely burned in Chelmsford yesterday were able to drive themselves to hospital before Emergency services arrived.

They were treated for their injuries and one of them was in critical condition.

Police were called around 4pm about the blaze on Keith Street where a large crowd had gathered.

The fire began in two detached sheds and did not involve any damage to the residence.

The cause of the fire is continuing to be investigated by the Ontario Fire Marshall’s office and the Criminal Investigation Unit.
