A 41-year old local police officer has passed away after a recreational diving incident over the weekend.

Paramedics were called to the Moose Mountain area, North of Capreol, around 11 am on Sunday, after 41-year old Scott Champagne surfaced from a quarry appearing to need help.

Divers attempted to perform life saving measures but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Champagne was a member of the Greater Sudbury Police Service and Special Constable at the Court House since 2001.

He is survived by his wife and two children.
