Santa Claus and The Offspring are both coming to Sudbury this weekend!
We have to MAJOR events happening in downtown Sudbury on Saturday, November 16th. But if you’re prepared things will go smoothly. Parking will be the number one issue as the Santa Claus Parade winds it’s way through downtown, and the Offspring and Sum 41 concert will be rockin the arena. The new parade route does not go past the arena but some roads will be closed limiting access to early concert goers. The parade route (see link to map) will be closed to traffic starting at 5 pm. Doors to the arena for the concert open at 6 pm.

Here’s what you can expect downtown tomorrow:

Chris and I will be set up in front of the school of architecture doing the parade commentary on Eastlink Channel 10. We’ll keep you posted on the dates the parade will air so you can enjoy it through the Christmas season. Stop by and say hi!

As in past years, the marshaling area for the parade floats is in the southbound lanes of Notre Dame which will be closed starting at 1 pm Saturday.

Check the map below for the parade route as it has changed a bit from last year to include a block on Larch Street between Elgin and Durham. Do NOT park along the parade route after 4 pm as you could be towed out of the way. The parade route will be closed to traffic starting at 5 pm.

The face on this little cutie says it all!

The parade celebrations include the popular Santa Watch Party taking place in the parking lot of TD Canada Trust from 2-5 pm, with festival foods, live entertainment and free wagon rides.

Fireworks will mark the beginning of the festivities. They will launch from the Van Horne Hill at 5:15 with the parade getting under way at 5:30. The direction of the parade west on Ste. Anne, south on Elgin, and east on Larch north on Durham, east on Elm, and finally north on Elm.

Santa will be looking for YOU this Saturday!

Now, for the big concert. The Sudbury arena will open it’s doors at 6 pm for the concert featuring Dinosaur Pile Up, Sum 41, and The Offspring. Concert starts at 7. Make sure you check out Greg Williams interview with Matt Bigland of Dinosaur Pile Up (Greg’s been a fan for a while) The Offspring also just announced this week they will release a new album early next year so expect to hear some new stuff at the show!

So, yes it will be busy and yes parking will be at a premium but if you plan ahead and have some patience, everyone will enjoy themselves!
