Lasalle Secondary School grade 12 student Lauren Rajala is in Switzerland for third annual Youth Winter Olympics not until January 22, 2020.

Lauren is not only a member of the Canadian Youth Curling Team, she was also chosen by the Canadian Olympic Committee to lead Team Canada as flag-bearer during the opening ceremony!

According to a news release from the Rainbow District School Board, Lauren captured gold with Team Northern Ontario at the Canadian Under 18 Championships and Team Ontario at the Canada Winter Games. She was inducted into the Greater Sudbury Sports Hall of Fame earlier this year.

Joining Lauren in her quest for gold are Jaedon Neuert of Manitoba, Emily Deschenes of Ontario, and Nathan Young of Newfoundland. You can catch some of the action at the Youth Winter Olympics here.

We called Lauren’s proud Dad Brian in Lausanne, Switzerland just hours ahead of the opening ceremonies.
