The Greater Sudbury Police Service Traffic Management Unit will be closing and or controlling several lanes of traffic and roads to ensure the safe movement of parade participants and those attending this year’s parade. Assisting with traffic control will be Patrol Officers, as well as, members of the Auxiliary Unit and Citizens on Patrol.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service understands area residents and motorists will be slightly inconvenienced on the afternoon of the parade, however, we believe these measures are necessary to successfully ensure the safety of all involved in the Santa Claus Parade.

Motorists should be aware of the following lane and road closures and take measures to avoid the affected areas:

–Southbound lanes on Notre Dame Avenue will be closed between Kathleen Street and Ste. Anne Road at 1:00 p.m.

–Notre Dame Avenue northbound between Elm Street and Leslie Street will be closed starting at 4:45 p.m. and will remained closed until all pedestrian traffic has cleared the parade area.

Motorists can detour via Kathleen Street towards Frood Road or Bond Street, to Murray Street and Leslie Street towards Mountain Street.

–The downtown core will be closed to vehicle traffic between 4:45 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

–The neighbourhood area of Kathleen Street, Davidson Street, College Street and MacKenzie Street will be open to local traffic only.

Please remember there will be two events in the downtown area coinciding with the parade. The first will be at the Sudbury Community Arena with the doors opening at 6:00 p.m. There will also be an event at the Sudbury Theater Center at 7:30 p.m. Attendees are reminded of the parade and that there will be no access within the parade perimeter.

It is recommended that all attendees park outside the parade perimeter or take public transit.

Parking will not be permitted along the parade route starting at 4:00 p.m. This includes Ste. Anne’s Road, Elgin Street North of Larch Street, Durham Street and Elm Street. Vehicles will be ticketed and or towed at the owner’s expense.

The Murray Street area will be used by Paramedic and Fire Services, as well as, Sudbury Transit as an alternate route and parking enforcement will take place to ensure safe passage as required.

Without exception, only on-duty first responders attending calls will be allowed access inside the parade route perimeter.
